HVAC System Pros & Cons

Sometimes information can be overloading and long winded, read our very short blog for a small introduction into HVAC units. As of 2025 new properties will not be allowed to have gas boiler. And if we are to help the UK reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050, older properties will need to switch their heating methods too.

So, let’s separate some pros and cons and write them in ‘real terms’ during this energy price challenging period, help you make your mind up and answer some questions.

HVAC System Pros

  1. Almost instant hot & cool air, energy is not wasted heating up your pipes
  2. Multiple modes – Heat, Cool, Dry, Fan etc.
  3. You can Individually heat rooms – just turn on the unit in the room that you are in as opposed to heating the whole house.
  4. Smart controls / Smart diagnosis
  5. You are not burning a fossil fuel to heat your home – greener energy
  6. Different styled units

HVAC System Cons

  1. It sometimes can be more expensive to install than a central heating system (however the Government are offering VAT free on purchase and installation of your units for 5 years, this is a saving of 20%)
  2. Requires servicing once a year to ensure its running effectively and efficiently
  3. Requires a small area outside, wall, floor or roof to mount the condenser unit.

Residential and commercial HVAC systems can contribute to making our Earth greener. Using renewable energy to heat and cool our commercial and residential spaces means we are reducing our CO2 footprint by not burning fossil fuels, helping to reach our 2050 goal of net zero CO2 emissions

The more efficient your system is the less running time required, for example if your room heats up in 5 minutes with your HVAC system as opposed to 35 minutes with a central heating system, this should equate to 30 minutes of money saved just in one instance. We also have to consider heat loss through pipes. If your HVAC system is working efficiently you should be converting energy for heat at the same ratio. Instead of heating your whole house you can heat individual rooms with your HVAC system. If you have a HVAC system installed in your lounge, bedrooms, garden room or office room you don’t need to heat all of these spaces, simply just turn on the unit in the room that you are in and set the mode required to feel almost instant benefits.

Air Conditioning units have come a long way in style since we first laid eyes on them. They look smart and sleek and there are different styled options such as; gallery units that allow any art work of your choice to be installed on the front of a frame. The individual units usually have a thermostat built within, when the room has reached the desired temperature, the unit will enter standby. Most are also now usually ‘smart’ meaning they can be Alexa compatible.

Being a family ran Business in Hampshire we tend to see the benefits of HVAC systems in the rural and urban areas surrounding us. Such as, Fareham, Gosport, Lee-on-The-Solent, Whiteley, Titchfield, Southampton and Portsmouth. And we have seen an increase on the demand for HVAC units and Heat Pumps particularly with the new Government funding (20% saving – VAT free purchase and installation).

Typically these units can be ‘expensive’ to install initially but, many argue against the word expensive and see the long term energy benefits in their bills. The word expensive is used loosely as each system will vary from property to property and its individual requirements. For example, a one bedroom flat will require a lot less energy to heat & cool as opposed to a 5 bedroom house.
